MORE ABOUT EASY READER BOOKS. These Easy Reader Books for literacy use, are designed with special provision for intellectual/learning disabled adults and youth. The approach and the language used is direct, leaving nothing ambiguous to confuse the reader. The subject of the story deals with issues of interest and relevance to the targeted reader - getting a job - living independently. There is also an element of personal development woven into the stories - eg. “Tom combed his hair. He straightened his tie. ‘I look all right’ he thought - personal presentation for a job interview. Physically, “TOM”, size A5 with 36 pages, and “TOM MAKES A DECISION” , A5 with 32 pages, are easy and comfortable to handle by sometimes inept fingers. The text and illustrations are clear, font, spacing between letters, and between words, are designed specifically, as are the line and sentence endings and sentence and paragraph length. The story is divided into three chapters to allow for a sense of achievement - reading a whole chapter. These books were workshopped in the draft stage, with two relevant groups of adults - at Anuha Services, Gatton, and The Gold Coast TAFE, Queensland Australia. They were enjoyed by the clients and commended by the tutors. Since publication, the response has been overwhelming with requests for more books in the same format. More in the TOM series. EASY READER ALL AGE PICTURE BOOK. The first in a “Land of Australia” series, this book is a full colour illustrated book - a light hearted glimpse of Australia and the Australian way of life. It incorporates the same meticulous attention to detail as the “TOM” books, with the added stimulus of full colour illustration, rhythm and repetition - and a sense of fun. The subject matter is of general interest from children to adults. “THE LAND OF AUSTRALIA - The Bush” was also workshopped in the draft stage, with the same group of adults as the “TOM” series.
